Personal Development & Wellbeing
Personal development & wellbeing at our school
Personal development and wellbeing is at the heart of our school, shaping everything we do to ensure all children achieve, thrive and live life in all its fullness. Through a rich curriculum, purposeful experiences and a nurturing environment, we support every pupil to grow academically, socially and emotionally. Our approach helps all pupils develop the confidence, resilience and character they need to flourish now and in the future.
A Strong, Well-Established Programme
Personal development is at the heart of our school. We offer a well-established programme delivered through both the curriculum and the wider opportunities available to pupils. Our PSED and RSE curriculum is progressive and carefully sequenced, enabling all children to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need for participation and success in later life. Through high-quality teaching and meaningful experiences, pupils grow into confident, responsible and resilient young people.
Enrichment, Clubs & Wider Experiences
We provide a well-planned enrichment and clubs offer, with activities running each half-term. Clubs range from sports to arts and crafts, ensuring there is something for every pupil. These opportunities help children achieve and thrive, with many taking part in regular sporting events and competitions that build teamwork, pride and determination.
Every year group enjoys an annual trip, and Year 6 attend a residential, giving pupils memorable experiences that build independence and resilience. Visitors regularly enrich school life, and staff plan exciting curriculum enhancement days such as Explorer Day in Year 2 and Penguin Day in Year 1, bringing learning to life in engaging and meaningful ways.
Pupils also benefit from a wide range of music opportunities, including whole-school singing events, musical instrument lessons and Rock Steady Band sessions that inspire creativity and confidence.
Whole-School Initiatives
Throughout the year, pupils take part in whole-school initiatives such as Anti-Bullying Week, Mental Health Awareness Week, Geography Week and Earth Day. These experiences deepen pupils’ understanding of themselves, others and the wider world, while strengthening their sense of community and responsibility.
British Values in Action
British Values are woven throughout school life. Pupils learn about democracy, respect, tolerance and responsibility, and have many opportunities to demonstrate these values in meaningful ways. They take part in voting for the School Council and Eco Council, and many take on leadership roles such as Star Writer, House Captain or Playground Leader.
The Trinity Mindset
Pupils’ wellbeing is nurtured through the development of the Trinity Mindset, which encourages children to be confident, kind, resilient, independent, determined, resourceful, helpful, proud and loved. These affirmations are embedded in daily school life and celebrated through weekly Headteacher’s Awards during class worship.
Children learn to apply the skills linked to each affirmation when solving problems, managing emotions and building friendships. Tools such as the friendship wheel help pupils reflect, communicate and resolve challenges thoughtfully.
Support for Pupils & Families
Our dedicated Family Support Worker provides additional guidance to pupils and families, helping to strengthen wellbeing across the school community. This includes running small-group interventions such as ‘Confident Me’ and offering 1:1 support when needed, ensuring children receive personalised help to build confidence, manage emotions and overcome challenges.
Community Connections & Active Citizenship
Our pupils have strong links with the local community. They regularly visit the local retirement village, reading to residents and taking part in seasonal events for Easter, Christmas and other significant celebrations. This partnership is highly valued and has been praised publicly during radio interviews.
Pupils also demonstrate active citizenship, responding thoughtfully to world and local events. They frequently initiate charity support, raising funds for causes such as WWF’s Adopt a Tiger and Derian House, showing compassion, awareness and a desire to make a positive difference.
