Modelling food passing through the digestive system
Year 4 have been modelling the movement of food through the digestive system this week, using mushy banana and weetabix.
Using a bowl as the mouth, we chopped and mushed up the food and then passed it through a funnel to show how it moves down the oesophagus. Once it was in our plastic stomach bag, we added some blue and green liquid to show how the enzymes break down the food, it looked revolting! Finally, we passed it into our intestine tights, squeezed out the liquid and then modelled how the body gets rid of waste. There were lots of disgusted faces, but we really enjoyed our science lesson.
