Homework

Homework - Year 5

As well as home reading,  Year 5 home work consists of Times Tables practise and Spelling.

We ask all pupils to practise their Times Tables at home regularly using their Times Tables Rock Stars account. This can be accessed via https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth/school/student/9701 or by downloading the free Times Tables Rock Stars app from the relevant app stores to your device.

Spellings (which are on the Homework Grid sheet, available to download here) will be sent out in the first week of term and be tested every Friday – pupils need to learn and practise these at home and will also be given opportunities to learn these in school through Handwriting and grammar activities. Please encourage your child to keep the spelling list somewhere safe and learn them every week. They are also assigned weekly on Spelling Shed for your child to practise at home. They will also get opportunities throughout the week to go onto Spelling Shed in School.  The Spelling Shed app is a paid app, but it can be accessed for free on all web browsers at: https://www.spellingshed.com/en-gb/

The additional homework grid activities are optional and we encourage children to complete these as much as possible throughout the year. If they complete an activity, please send it through to the year5@trinitybuckshaw.lancs.sch.uk email.

Reading

There will be a strong focus on improving comprehension in Year 5 and the Reading homework will reflect this.

A reading book and your child’s Home Reading Record will be sent home every Friday, along with a related task to be completed by your child.  Please ensure that the comprehension task is completed to an age appropriate standard.  The children have been shown what this looks like and will be asked to complete the work again if it is not acceptable.

All reading books and Home Reading Records should be returned to school every Thursday please.

We will reward Golden tickets to those children who read frequently (4 times a week or more) to an adult at home.  Please make sure that your child is reading with the same adult as much as possible to avoid oversharing of resources at home and complete the Home Reading Record each time your child reads their book.

All children will have the opportunity to take home a Library book and to take part in the Trinity Library Reading Challenge, to aim to read 30 books over the year. Library days can vary, so please encourage your child to bring their books to school everyday!

PE

Please ensure that your child’s PE kit is FULLY LABELLED with their FULL NAME, in a bag labelled with their FULL NAME and CLASS. Earrings should be removed or covered with surgical tape for all PE lessons.

5D Fridays  & 5R Wednesdays =  Swimming Kit = towel, 1 piece costume or trunks/swimming hat. No jewellery allowed. Boys must wear trunks not baggy swim shorts.

School PE kits should be kept in school at all times as PE days sometimes change due to other events in school.
